Welcome to Suck-cession – a podcast exploring what happens when planning for the future doesn’t go to plan. Now, you might be wondering what has possessed me to talk publicly about the dirty little secret that is succession planning (or lack thereof) in Australian agriculture. Well, someone has to.

I can’t recall a single ag event or conference that I’ve been to over the past 10 years where I HAVEN’T spoken to at least one person where their family succession planning process isn’t a complete nightmare. But it’s spoken about in hushed tones, as though these smart, passionate people are ashamed of the fact that their own family has taken advantage of them & their passion for agriculture, like somehow it’s their fault for wanting to live on the family farm, work in the industry they love and for having the audacity for also wanting to have a say in their future.

This podcast will be a resource for people and families trying to navigate the tumultuous and sometimes treacherous process that is agricultural succession planning. It’s for letting people know that they’re not alone, that there’s a lot of us in the same boat and what we can do about it.
